Sweater Dress | Scarf | Heels

Cashmere Cape | Boyfriend Jeans | Flats

Striped Top | Button-Down Skirt

Turtleneck | Faux-Leather Skirt | Boots

Tips for dressing for your Turkey Day:

Do: Eat in style, but stay comfortable. Sweatpants are never okay at the dinner table. Stick to dark colors and jewel tones to cover up unexpected spills (plus the coloring will add a natural slimming element).

Don’t: Forget to wear what you feel best in. Make sure to leave the tight clothes and high maintenance fabrics at home.

P.s. What are you planning on wearing this year?

Checking In For Fall

I know I’ve heard the phrase, “can you believe it’s already fall?” issued a number of times this week and yet I still don’t know where time (or summer) has gone!

Regardless, I’m beyond thrilled for my favorite season of the year – fall foliage, that extra breeze in the air, pumpkin everything, cozy sweaters, multiple viewings of Hocus Pocus, zero chances of humidity… the list goes on and on. And there is so much happening, too! We’re still in fashion week* (it’s actually a month when you include all of the cities – New York, London, Milan and Paris – shows are currently in Milan), weekend trips are being planned, plane tickets have been booked for Thanksgiving and Christmas, holiday invitations are already being sent out… there’s definitely a lot coming down the pipeline that I’m excited to share with y’all.

I feel like with every season there’s an extra inclination to reflect on the past season while picturing the future. It’s important to not only see the progress of our goals, but to realize if some need to be altered or even added accordingly.

Here’s what I’m hoping to focus on this season:

  • Work – I’ve been with my new company for about a month now (!) and loving it. I have a great team with challenging and creative opportunities everywhere – what more could a girl want? However, I would really like to fine-tune some of my responsibilities and communicating with my coworkers as efficiently and thoroughly as possible.
  • Health – Should we all share a moment of silence for the end of rosé season? After a busy summer of travel and more lobster rolls than I care to admit, I’m looking forward to getting back in shape at my favorite boxing gym and runs. I know that sentence sounds super optimistic after a lag in my workout routine, and I may be low-key dreading the thought of getting back to the level I use to be, but in the end the results are beyond worth it.
  • Writing – I love writing. I don’t think I would still have a blog  if I didn’t (this is my second one technically – I started my first one when I moved to New York City for the first time at 19 while I interned for a semester at Seventeen Magazine). Working on posting more regularly without it taking away from my other responsibilities would be a major goal. Also, writing in general. I have a few projects on my mind TBD.
  • Spending quality time wisely – If I’ve learned anything this year, the group of people you surround yourself in your twenties is incredibly significant – I could not be more blessed with the inspiring people in my life. Being present and just having that bonding time to check-in, exchange stories/ideas (or binge watch Stranger Things) is essential. Looking at things now, I am much more capable with saying “no” to activity that I’m not interested in without the fear of FOMO (is that still a thing?) or know is not in line with my goals. FaceTiming with an out-of-state friend, seeing a concert at Lincoln Center or trying a new restaurant with Matt sounds much more appealing on Wednesday night than a mid-week happy hour.
  • Reading – I feel like I’m constantly checking my email for new content. Whether it be a news update from The Skimm or BOF, or a clever advertisement from J.Crew with a great design, I always want to keep my mind open for new ideas. I’m also reading three books at once (#nosurprise) again, because there’s just so much out there. I seriously praise Amazon daily for the amount of books I can order at the click of a mouse.
  • Style – Thank goodness boot season is finally here. I’m pretty sure I stocked up on autumn/winter staples last year, but I really want to edit out the pieces that don’t fit, are completely worn out or just aren’t my style anymore. Also, as much as I admire people who can pull off all of the seasons trends, I know that I don’t have to try to pull off all of them, too – at the end of the day, you have to be true to your personal style. I do not foresee me exchanging my pearls anytime soon, but I would like to incorporate more navy and burgundy into my outfits this fall… and I did fall hard for this on-trend choker dress for evenings out on the town with my girls.
  • Learning – More and more I find myself watching tutorials on say a trick on InDesign or an inspiring podcast (Lori Harder’s Earn Your Happiness is at the top of my list! I seriously love her interview choices) and I doubt that will slow down any time soon.
  • Pushing the barriers of my comfort zone even more – It could be as little as cooking a new dish or booking my first solo trip… more on that last one later 😉

What are you looking to working on this fall? Any tweaked or added goals? I’m looking forward to hearing from y’all!

Thanksgiving 2016

screen-shot-2016-11-19-at-12-15-44-pm

Once the temperature drops, the holidays are constantly on my mind – especially Thanksgiving. Matt and I have been spending a lot of time with his family lately (which I love), but this year, I’m taking him down to Florida.

While my ideal outfit for the day may be a little (read: much) too warm for the South, I can make a few adjustments to fit the climate change.

Other than that, I’ve already mentally packed my suitcase for tubing on the lake, visiting Disney World (cliché, but I’ll take it), binging on the Gilmore Girls revival on Netflix, spending time with family and friends, watching Gator football and maybe even a little Black Friday shopping 😉

What are you doing this Thanksgiving?

Coat (under $150!) | Turtleneck | Jeans

Rose Gold Earrings | Handbag | Boots (on sale)

Wine (isn’t this hysterical?) | Nail Polish | Lipstick

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

In addition to debating which sides I want with my turkey, I can’t help but also think about what I’m most thankful for this year – and I have a number of things to be thankful for :-)

In addition to the warm weather I am currently (thank you, Florida!)

Off the top of my head… family/friends/Matt, laughter, adventures, A/C, art, freedom, thought-provoking podcasts, clean water, my job, interesting books, lake days, lobster rolls, music, Ron Swanson, writing, pictures of German shepherd puppies and any difficult times this year that have shaped me during 2016.

What are you thankful for this year?

I know I’m a few days off (blame the food coma, great company and Black Friday sales), but I wanted to say how much I appreciate everyone who reads and responds to my blog. While it’s not always perfect, I do love sharing my life (struggles and all) as I live and work in New York City while passing along my tips and tricks – from travel and work advice to fashion, lifestyle and beauty suggestions – with all of you.

I feel extremely grateful this year because I was able to consciously celebrate another year of “trying.” I know that must sound awfully funny, or even too simplified for some, but isn’t life just a series of trial and error with success in-between? The fact that I’m trying – that we’re all “trying” – to do our best in life is something to be thankful for, because without trying, we wouldn’t get anywhere.

And what’s life but not a daring adventure?

I personally believe those moments of triumph are made especially sweet with a supportive group of friends and family behind me – much like this past Thanksgiving holiday allowed me to have. Not only did I get to celebrate with Matt and his wonderful family this year, but also my mom and step-father who drove up from Maryland. And the people I spoke to before and after – from my dad and youngest brother in Florida on their surprise Thanksgiving visit to my grandmother, to a special FaceTime with my newly engaged friend of 10+ years, and even a friend who is starting a new business venture (!), I could not contain my excitement for them all “trying” in their own way to embrace life wholeheartedly.

So thank you, readers, for another year of your support and “trying.” Whether that means going for that new job, standing up for yourself, being vulnerable with someone you love or flying solo to a new country – keep pushing forward, because nothing in life worth having comes easy. And, as always, remember that there is always something to be thankful for in your life.

Hello from sunny Florida!

Sorry for the brag, but I’m over-the-moon to be in a state where I don’t have four plus layers or worry about snow in November. Matt and I are here to visit my family, and I have a fun event tonight (more on that on my Instagram stories), but I’ll be back in the city Tuesday. Stay warm, friends :-)

1. A cheeky host/hostess gift for under $25.

2. I have a feeling I’ll be buying this eye cream soon…

3. Thanksgiving guest etiquette 101.

4. Why reading is the smartest thing you can do.

5. My go-to cashmere top this season.

6. How to avoid gaining weight on Turkey Day.

7. 24 things to do when you’re bored on a plane.

8. I could live in these super soft jogger pants.

Happy Thanksgiving, y’all!

I certainly have quite a bit to be thankful for:  my incredible family, boyfriend & friends, new destinations crossed off on my bucket list, thought-provoking podcasts, face masks, my merit scholarship for my MBA, cozy mornings, Dyson products (hair dryer/vacuum), seeing John Legend perform… there are honestly too many things to list. And that’s just off the top of my head. Here’s to another day (that’s right, not just today) of being grateful.
